The Artifex is the one that orchestrates the investigations behind The Essay Vault.
Derived from the Latin word for craftsman, maker or atist, The Artifex symbolizes a way of engaging with the world: through curiosity, observation, and deliberate pursuit of understanding.
As a natural polymath, The Artifex believes that complex phenomena rarely have a single cause. Human behavior, organizations,, cultures, individuals, are interconnected systems that influence each other through incentives and feedback loops.
By exploring multiple disciplines - including psychology, business, sociology, strategy, and politics - it aims to identify the patterns, challenge the assumptions and build a foundation of clarity.
The objetive is not certainty.
The Artifex believes that the objective is to ask better questions using curiosity as a tool for development, understanding and success. It is a vehicle for building stronger models, refined thought and interpret reality more clearly.

My name is Diogo Pataco.
I am an independent writer and systems thinker. I have a strong interest in human behavior, group dynamics, business strategy and decision-making. My work focuses on identifying the hidden structures that influence people and organizations.
My curiosity is driven by a simple question:
Why do things work the way they do?
I hold a Master's degree in Micro and Nanotechnology Engineering and expertise in cutting-edge semiconductor technology design. My engineering background served me as an anchor for my approach: observation, investigation and structured thinking.
I wish to explore through essays and analysis, both the internal systems - decision-making, identity, trauma, motivation - and external systems - companies, instituitions, societies.
I am particularly interested in the connections between the different disicplines and the patterns that can emerge when ideas are analysed from multiple perspectives.
The Essay Vault is an exploratory project, I do not claim definitive answers. I write to investigate, learn, share and hypotesize.
My objective is to promote clearer thinking and understanding, as it may hep improve every area of human experience - from work and direction, to mental health and relationships.
